Frequently Asked Questions about Vinyl Fencing
What does
the "Lifetime Warranty" mean?
If the vinyl
should ever discolor, peel, rot, pit, blister, warp, rust, flake,
crack, corrode, or be damaged by insects it would be replaced by
the factory and Home Improvement King, Inc. free of charge.
How long
has vinyl fencing been around?
Vinyl fencing
has been available since 1984 (over 15 years). It is the fastest
growing product in the fencing industry with sustained annual growth
at 35% plus.
How strong
is it?
It has five
times the tensile strength of wood and four times the flexibility.
It flexes under load making it strong enough to safely hold cattle
and horses. Our manufacturers use impact modifiers to make our fence
strong and forgiving for horses and riders as well as other farm
animals.
Can I install
it myself?
Most properties
are not level and that will cause a problem. To do it right requires
a professional installation. Home Improvement King, Inc. has licensed,
bonded and insured factory trained installers to make sure the job
is done right. Most people we know who have done it themselves end
up regretting it.
How does it compare to wood?
It is stronger,
lasts much longer, is safer, looks better, and costs much less over
time. It can cost the same as or more than wood initially depending
on local wood prices, type of wood and style of fence or deck but
over its life it is about one third of the cost.
How do you
set the posts?
The posts are
set in concrete in the ground from 24 to 36 inches deep and in some
cases cement is put inside the posts with re-bar for exceptional
strength. (This is not recommended for livestock because it makes
it too strong.)
Can I paint
it?
Paint doesn't
adhere well to the surface which is good in the case of graffiti
but bad if you like to paint things. The color of the vinyl goes
all the way through so it can't be scratched or chipped off which
means it will never need to be painted.
Will it discolor
over time?
It is warranted
by the factory for your lifetime to never do that. We use a U.V.
inhibitor called titanium dioxide at a rate of 10 parts per hundred
which creates a solar barrier equivalent to a sun block of 38 so
the sun can't break it down.
How long
does it take to get it?
Usually 2 to
5 weeks installed because everything is custom measured and built.
Is the warranty
still good if you're out of business?
The lifetime
warranty is made by the manufacturer. These are large national companies
with many years in business. Although it is possible that they could
go out of business, it's not likely, particularly since they are
all growing at an average rate of 30% per year. Also our company,
Home Improvement King, Inc., is the largest home improvement company in
Southern California with a $250,000 performance bond that protects
you.
